San Domenico Summer Summit
Three Weeks: $5,000
About This Camp
Founded in 1850 as the first Independent school in California, San Domenico is an internationally recognized boarding and day school. San Domenico, which is set on 115 beautiful acre campus, is conveniently located, 30 minutes from San Francisco. The school has a rich legacy of educating domestic and international students from around the world along for the past 168 years.
This three week intensive program is designed specifically for international students aged 12-17, who want to improve their English language and comprehension skills as well as learn more about what a residential boarding school experience is like. Students are tested and grouped according to their English language proficiency levels.
With over 50-years-experience running Youth and College Pathway Language Programs, ELS Language Centers, will lead Academic English classes in partnership with San Domenico faculty.
Campers will live on campus at San Domenico in its boarding facilities, and enjoy its expansive campus and recreational facilities. In addition to the three-hours of English language classes a day, students will get an overview into the San Domenico High School experience, including a chance to meet and learn from the SD faculty in specially designed 90 minutes lecture series Monday through Thursday.
Outside the classroom, students will explore the campus and local shopping areas, participate in recreational sports and swimming, evening games, and live along side American students who are participating in summer programs on campus. Weekend programs include trips to popular sites in San Francisco and Marin, including beaches and amusement parks.
The curriculum for this intensive three-week program is Academic English, with a focus on developing practical English skills including listening comprehension, note-taking for lectures, and oral presentation skills. Students will also receive a TOEFL or SAT prep class. The SD Lecture series, taught by San Domenico faculty, will be focused on topics in literature, popular culture, creative writing, and leadership. Class sizes are small, and students experience the benefits of individual attention and focused English practice. Students quickly form close relationships with SD Faculty, counselors and other participants.
The SD Summit program provides students a great advantage when preparing for the TOEFL exam and provides a unique insight into the high school experience and education process afforded by American schools.
Camp open to international boys and girls ages 12-18.
