SPOTLIGHT ON MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE:
SD Takes First Place at National Geo Challenge
Topic: Tackling Plastics in the Oceans
San Domenico’s Middle School Science teacher, Annemarie Robinson, empowers students to solve real-life problems through the annual National Geo Challenge. This year’s topic, “Tackling Plastic!” invited students to investigate plastic pollution in our waterways. Student teams researched, designed, presented, and ultimately competed on a National level to create innovative solutions to a current environmental challenge. This project illustrates curricular integration in action at San Domenico.
National Awards
Competing in the National Geographic Geo Challenge, from more than 1,100 California teams, 21 students from San Domenico were selected to compete among the Top 15 teams! Our very own SD, seventh grader, Kayla S. was presented the prestigious Ambassador Award as well as SD seventh grader, Charlie A. who won the National Award for best field testing.

Each year, plastic pollution kills more than 100,000 marine creatures. SD students are determined to affect positive change and see these numbers decline. |
