Welcome to SD
Welcome from Head of School
On behalf of our entire San Domenico community, I invite you to discover the many ways in which SD is distinctive among independent schools in the Bay Area. Founded in 1850, San Domenico holds the unique distinction of being certified as California's oldest independent school.
Anchored by our heritage and four core values of study, reflection, community, and service, we encourage our students at SD to not just study, but also to reflect on their learning, find their purpose, and celebrate in community. An exceptional education—where values and academics join together—creates more than just great students. It develops great people. We call this The SD Difference.
Our expansive 515-acre campus serves a truly global student community. As Marin County’s only K-12 school—with boarding and day options in the high school—our unique program attracts students from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, with more than 20 countries represented among our student body.
SD's faculty members are leaders in best practice teaching and experts in social/emotional learning, and we could not be more proud of what they offer our students. Even during a pandemic, classes at SD have remained purpose driven and student centered, allowing every student to develop one’s own creativity, critical thinking skills, and a love of learning.
I invite you to read our Portrait of a Graduate to learn more about the great people we develop here at SD. Our alumni have a deep sense of self and are truly global citizens, having studied with classmates and "big brothers and sisters" from around the world.
We hope you enjoy learning more about San Domenico and invite you to come visit our campus or take a virtual tour!
All the best,
Cecily Stock '77, M.A., J.D.

STEAM Program Track (Science Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)
Multidisciplinary and project-based learning across departments, plus more than 10 AP’s and Honor Courses mean our STEAM opportunities allow students to take a deeper dive into science, technology, engineering, art, and math, while exploring their interplay and future impact.
Philosophy, Ethics, and World Religions
SD’s Philosophy, Ethics, and World Religions department is a unique point of distinction that enriches Student Life and multidisciplinary, purpose-driven learning.
