We had a very strong field of 15 wonderful actors this year in our Shakespeare Competition, organized by Theatre Arts teacher Jen Grimes. This is the 6th year we have held the competition, in conjunction with the English-Speaking Union, and international organization. The Shakespeare Competition is their largest event, with over 50,000 students from across the US competing. The competition starts at the school level; winners from each school progress to the Regionals, and Regional winners compete in NYC at the Lincoln Center. First prize this year at the National Competition is a scholarship to the British-American Drama Academy Midsummer Conservatory in Oxford, England.
This is the second year in a row Isabella Kaplan (2020) has won at the school level; last year she placed 3rd at the Regional Level in San Francisco. She performed Juliet; at the Regional level she will perform Juliet again and a sonnet. She will be working with her coach, Jen Grimes, during the next month preparing for the Regionals the first weekend of March.
Aislinn McInerney (2019) was first runner-up with Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing, and Kavi Subramanyan (2021) was second runner-up with Angelo from Measure for Measure.
We congratulate all the actors who participated in the competition.
