Media to Start Conversations About Racism and Social Justice

Talking about race isn't always easy, but it's an important conversation to have -- and then keep having as kids get older. Depending on what your kids are into, they may be picking up on all kinds of mixed messages and representations around race, but there is great media out there to help spark that conversation.

Last month the book The Hate U Give was released as a movie, and it's a great opportunity to read or watch with your teen and talk about the issues it raises. If you have a younger kid, there are plenty of books that address civil rights issues, social justice, the immigrant experience, and race in kid-appropriate ways. And if your kid feels inspired to act on what they learn, there's media that can help make their voices heard and give them opportunities to make an impact.
