Twelfth Night or What You Will
“The theatre program at SD fostered the growth of my artistic voice throughout the years…It was a big part of my high school career, with each show helping me develop a better part of myself, both in performing arts and in the real world. SD’s theatre program is both welcoming and encouraging, rigorous and rewarding, and I would not trade my experiences with it for anything.”
 Jacob E.

The San Domenico theatre department creates a welcoming and safe environment for students of every level who are interested in exploring theatre creation and performance.  With a conservatory-level curriculum that spans every aspect of acting and stagecraft, we serve the full spectrum of students' interests and talents. Through extensive collaboration and ongoing personal work, Theatre Arts students are carefully guided to take the healthy risks that help them to expand as artists and as individuals.

San Domenico's Theatre Arts program stages a minimum of five productions every academic year. Participation in classical and modern drama, musical theatre, comedy, student-directed one-acts and student-written plays are some of the ways in which students can experiment with a range of roles so critical to their development as artists. Stage combat, audition technique and technical theatre round out this rigorous program that has put many alumni in major college theatre programs throughout the country and abroad.

"The theatre program is my favorite thing about San Domenico. I've truly had the time of my life!"
Cailin D.

The Theatre Arts program sponsors Master Classes in which students work with guest actors and directors from the San Francisco Bay Area and venues such as the Marin Shakespeare Company.  Field trips to professional theater venues include A.C.T., Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and Marin Theater.

San Domenico School is a frequent host of the regional chapter of The English-Speaking Union (ESU) National Shakespeare Competition and many of our students have received awards over the years.

The Middle School musical production—with about 45 students in the cast and crew—is one of the most beloved events of the year at SD. It is truly a community project, with families participating in all of the production endeavors, including costumes, props, and sets. Theatre Tech students participate in running lights, sound, and working backstage during the shows.
