San Domenico’s Bolinas
Alumni Reflection Retreat

Save the Date: 2019 Bolinas Alumni Reflection Retreat
March 29-31, 2019

Over the weekend of March 9-11, 2018 Sister Gervaise Valpey, O.P, Kayleen Asbo, Ph.D., and Alumni Relations Manager Emily Garlock, welcomed Dominican/San Domenico alumnae for the annual Alumni Reflection Retreat in Bolinas, California.

This mindful gathering is inspired by the collaboration of the alums that attend, and looks to unfold with a restorative sense of self and community. We are blessed with the stunning and nourishing Bolinas landscape, in the Dominican Sisters’ home shared with San Domenico and Dominican students since 1930.

Retreat Reflection Topic: Dante
Led by Kayleen Asbo, Ph.D.

Dante's Divine Comedy has been called the most beautiful poem ever written – a brilliant work of imagination that weaves together Greek and Roman myth, European history, and a pathway of universal spiritual development with deep cross cultural resonances. Written during the "dark woods" of Dante's midlife, amid a series of catastrophes, it is an epic achievement that saved the author's own life – and can also immeasurably enrich our own. In this one-day workshop we will explore his fascinating journey of the soul through art, poetry, music, and myth, woven with questions for journaling and shared reflections so that you can discover how Dante's story can be a map of the development for your own inner transformation and flourishing.

Kayleen Asbo Ph.D, is a passionate scholar: a cultural historian, musician, writer, spiritual director, and teacher who weaves myth, music, psychology, history, and art with experiential learning. A faculty member of the Pacifica Graduate Institute and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Kayleen also teaches regularly for the Osher Life Long Learning Institutes at UC Berkeley, Sonoma State University, and Dominican University. Her classes on a wide array of topics ranging from Depth Psychology to the History of Classical Music have been hailed as "fascinating and compelling" and "an addictive and inspirational blend of impeccable scholarship and pure passion". Her favorite description came from an event producer who introduced her as a cross between Joseph Campbell, Leonard Bernstein, and Wonder Woman. Dr. Asbo's workshops on Dante have consistently been called "transformational” and "truly life changing". Having discovered Dante during a dark time in her own life, she is devoted to sharing his message of light and hope during every Lenten season.
