The Rose Garden: A Living Tribute – and an Invitation to Lend a Hand
Tucked behind the Lower School art room is a small but vibrant rose garden, home to 136 plants in a rainbow of colors and varieties—Hybrid Tea, grandiflora, miniature, and climbing roses with names like ‘Abracadabra’, ‘Paradise’, and ‘Diana Princess of Wales’. The garden was created in memory of Jennifer Fornos ’90 by her parents, classmates, and teachers after she was tragically killed in a pedestrian accident during her senior year at Georgetown University in 1993. Jennifer was a beloved member of the San Domenico community—kind, gifted, and full of quiet leadership. Her classmates envisioned the garden as a space where her spirit could live on, shared through the simple beauty of a rose.
Today, the garden is lovingly cared for by Sister Gervaise, Ann Dersheimer ’63, and Ann’s husband Ken, with help from the San Domenico grounds crew. The roses continue to bring joy throughout campus—gracing homemade prom corsages and boutonnieres, adorning teachers’ classrooms, and most recently, serving as heartfelt gifts for Distinguished Alumni honorees at Reunion Weekend. Each bloom carries not only beauty but also the legacy of Jennifer’s generous and joyful spirit.
If you're a local alum who enjoys gardening or would simply like to spend time in this peaceful space, Sister Gervaise and Ann would warmly welcome a few extra hands for seasonal pruning and deadheading. If you're interested in helping, please reach out to Sister Gervaise direction at smg@sandomenico.org. And whether or not you volunteer, we hope you’ll stop by the garden next time you’re on campus—it remains a living expression of love, memory, and community.

2025 Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Vincenzo Keawe Calcagno ’21
We are thrilled to recognize Vincenzo Keawe Calcagno as San Domenico’s 2025 Outstanding Young Alumni! A Marin County native and gifted violist, Vincenzo is currently completing his senior year at The Juilliard School, where he studies under Heidi Castleman and Misha Amory as a recipient of the Irene Diamond and E. & J. Brenner Scholarships.
This summer, Vincenzo will continue honing his artistry at the Verbier Festival Academy and the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, two of the most prestigious training grounds for emerging soloists. An expressive and versatile musician, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, collaborated with the Calidore Quartet in the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Master Class Series, and recently served as principal violist in the Juilliard Orchestra’s performance of Verklärte Nacht.
Vincenzo has studied at renowned programs such as the Taos School of Music, the Perlman Music Program, and the Music Academy of the West, where he worked intensively with the Takács Quartet and performed under the baton of Maestro Anthony Parnther. He has also received coaching from distinguished musicians including Cynthia Phelps, Richard O’Neill, and Karen Dreyfus.
Coming from a long line of Kanaka (Native Hawaiian) musicians and entertainers, Vincenzo’s deep connection to music began in childhood, surrounded by his family’s musical heritage and the diverse sounds of the Bay Area. He started his musical training as a chorister and soloist with the San Francisco Boys Chorus, later performing with the San Francisco Opera Chorus before discovering his passion for the viola in his school’s orchestra and chamber music program. At 15, he was accepted into the studio of Helen Callus at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, a mentorship that deeply influenced his musical journey.
Please join us in celebrating Vincenzo’s incredible achievements and bright future in classical music!

Ashley Eagle-Gibbs ’00
We are thrilled to recognize Ashley Eagle-Gibbs as San Domenico’s 2025 Distinguished Alumni! She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin (EAC), where she has expanded legal and policy initiatives focused on climate, coastal, and public lands issues.
