What is Indexed Tuition?
At San Domenico School, we believe an exceptional college-preparatory education should be accessible to talented and motivated students from all backgrounds. Our Indexed Tuition model reflects our commitment to making a San Domenico education attainable for families across a range of financial circumstances.
We recognize that an independent school education is a significant investment. Through a thoughtful and confidential financial aid process, we partner with families to determine a tuition level that reflects their overall financial circumstances and resources.
In the 2026-27 school year alone, our Indexed Tuition program provides millions of dollars in tuition and fee reduction for 38% of San Domenico families. By welcoming families with a range of financial circumstances, we cultivate a vibrant and diverse community where students learn from one another’s experiences, perspectives, and talents.
Who Should Apply for Indexed Tuition?
If you believe San Domenico is the right fit for your child but are concerned that tuition may be beyond your family’s means, we encourage you to apply. Every family’s circumstances are unique, and our confidential process considers the broader financial picture—not income alone.
Indexed Tuition is designed for families across a wide range of financial circumstances. Many participating families are dual-income households who find that paying full tuition would place a significant strain on their family budget. Household incomes among participating families range from under $75,000 to more than $395,000.

Daily Bus Service and Meals Included
Tuition includes our traditional morning soup break and a healthy, hearty lunch cooked daily in our dining hall. Bus transportation is also included at no additional charge, with service across Marin County, as well as Novato, Richmond, and San Francisco.
Applying for Indexed Tuition
Indexed Tuition Deadlines and Important Dates
- December 1, 2026: Indexed Tuition Applications for Returning Families Due
- December 1, 2026: International Student Financial Aid Profile (ISFAP) for International Students Due
- January 5, 2027: Indexed Tuition Applications for K-12 Applicants Due
- February 10, 2027: Tax Documents Due (2026 W2s and /or 1099’s)
2026-27 Tution
Tuition for the 2026-27 school year begins at $500 for families receiving Indexed Tuition and ranges to the top of the tuition index:
Kindergarten: $47,975
Grades 1-5: $49,900
Grades 6-8: $54,500
Grades 9-12 (Day): $69,650
Grades 9-12 (Boarding): $86,800

Indexed Tuition Frequently Asked Questions
How do parents who are separated, divorced, or never married apply for Indexed Tuition?
San Domenico maintains a philosophy that requires active participation of a student's family in funding this educational opportunity. In instances where parents are separated or divorced, the School requires both parents to contribute to the cost of their child’s education and submit the Clarity application. The School will not be bound by the statement that one parent has waived responsibility for educational expenses. If either parent has remarried, all financial information about the current spouse is to be included in the application.
Can international students apply for Indexed Tuition?
Yes. International families applying for Indexed Tuition (financial aid), who have never filed taxes in the United States, should complete the Clarity application. If you have filed taxes in the US, you will be asked to complete Form 4506C when you start the Clarity application.
How many families participate in the Indexed Tuition program?
For the 2026-27 school year, approximately 38% of families participate in the Indexed Tuition program.
What if our family chooses not to apply for Indexed Tuition this year but needs to in the future?
If affordability becomes a challenge due to a change of circumstances in the future, we encourage families to apply for Indexed Tuition.
Do families who are currently paying full tuition need to apply for Indexed Tuition or submit any financial documents?
No. Only families who wish to be considered to pay below the top of the Index (full tuition) need to submit an application.
