With the first day of school fast approaching, SD’s Lower School teachers spent the first part of the week putting finishing touches on their classrooms as they eagerly awaited the arrival of their new students. From colorful posters, to individual names on pencil boxes, to favorite stuffies in special baskets, our teachers find imaginative ways to create a welcoming classroom environment for our students.
For Director of Lower School LeaAnne Parlette, creating an attitude of welcome is an intentional exercise at San Domenico. “When I say ‘Welcome’ at the beginning of the school year, I’m really saying welcome to our SD community. Whether it be teachers, families, or students, each one of us has chosen to be here on this beautiful campus. I value the opportunity to get to know each and every individual, to hear stories from the summer, to get to know the students - not just their learning styles and how to keep them engaged, but who they are as human beings. I look forward to developing skills, having fun, and learning together.”
“I am especially looking forward to our weekly assemblies!” continues Parlette. “Our assemblies bring so much joy, we learn about each other and what everyone is doing in their classrooms, and everything is completely led and created by the students. It could be a skit about what to wear for our dress code, how to compost, show and tell moments about class projects - each week it is completely different and fun.”
