Dear San Domenico,
May all beings be at peace. May all beings be happy. May all beings be free.
This week we commemorate the United Nations’ International Day of Peace. What does it take to create peace in today’s conflict-ridden world?
One: We cannot have peace without justice. We must all work to end the inequalities and injustices that create conflict. Two: We cannot have peace without understanding. To learn each other’s cultures and backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, creates empathy and understanding.
That is why we celebrate Peace Day each year by adding a new language panel to our Peace Pole. In the last three years we have added Pashto (a language from Afghanistan), Swahili, and Navajo. This year we will be adding a panel in Hindi in honor of the Indian language and culture.
