In Japan, there is a beautiful concept called Ikigai (生き甲斐), which roughly translates to “reason for being.” This is exactly the understanding of purpose that we teach in our Wayfinder class. It is the idea that each person searches for something—big or small—that gives their life meaning and joy. Your ikigai is found at the intersection of what you love, what you’re good at, what sustains you, and what the world needs.
For some, ikigai is a lifelong passion or career. For others, it’s found in simple, everyday joys—a morning walk, cooking for family, helping a friend, or learning something new. It doesn’t have to be extraordinary. It only needs to be meaningful to you. Purpose is something we create for ourselves, something that unfolds as we learn the art of life.
Where do you feel most alive? What brings you that feeling of joy? What makes your life meaningful?
With love,
Mirza
