Weekly Reflection January 23, 2023
Lunar New Year lantern

Happy New Year! With this Lunar New Year, we enter the Year of the Rabbit, which promises “gentleness, elegance, and beauty” – sounds like a good hutch right? After a Year of the Tiger, which was characterized by challenge and the need for strength and bravery, a year of quiet, rest, and contemplation feels very, very welcome.

As with most fortune-telling, this prediction will not just happen on its own. We must become those qualities we seek. We cannot expect to find them outside. We must find them within. How can you find the gentleness and peace of the rabbit in your own life, in your own mind?

“In modern society most of us don't want to be in touch with ourselves; we want to be in touch with other things like religion, sports, politics, a book - we want to forget ourselves. Anytime we have leisure, we want to invite something else to enter us, opening ourselves to the television and telling the television to come and colonize us. From time to time, remind yourself to be peaceful, set aside some time for a retreat, a day of mindfulness, walk slowly, smile, drink tea with a friend.”

Wishing you a wonderful week and a peaceful year!
