The 2024 water polo season kicks off this Tuesday, as San Domenico’s varsity teams host visiting Terra Linda High School. This marks the second full season the Panthers will compete in the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL).
After a win against San Marin last year, the Women’s Water Polo varsity team goes into this new season with high hopes of winning multiple games in the MCAL and making a strong push for the playoffs. Returning seniors, Lauren K. ’25 (2023 All MCAL), Emma G. ’25, Kylie H. ’25, Lucy F. ’25, Alexis C.M. ’25 and goalie Alma T. ’25 give the Panthers the senior leadership needed to have a successful season. Kayla L. ’26, Frances K. ’26 and Bea B. G. ’27 all bring club water polo experience to help the team keep improving.
We asked Women’s Water Polo Head Coach Giorgio Cico about his expectations for the team. “The girls are very tight with each other. We had many of them playing club water polo in the off season. They were so happy winning a game last season and want to improve on that win total. The girls are super dedicated and it is a pleasure to work with them.”
The men’s team is looking for their historic first win in the MCAL. Returning starters Will R. ’25, Demyd K. ’27, Koan N. ’25 and Oliver B. ’25 have all been consistently working hard on their game. The team will be helped by newcomers Finn M. ’28, Alexander H. ’27 and Cal O. ’28.
We asked Men’s Water Polo Head Coach Pete Galli about his expectations for this year’s team. “We have good senior leadership with Koan, Will and Bennett. The boys are all working hard and getting to know each other. Freshman Finn M. is going to be a big help. He plays center and will give our offense a huge boost. Sophomore Demyd K. is now six-feet-six-inches tall. He is going to block a ton of shots in the goal. We are putting in the work; hopefully we will be able to knock off a few teams.”
Come on out and root on your Panthers this Tuesday!
