A quartet of Virtuoso Program (VP) students warmly welcomed new parents to San Domenico at the recent K-8 New Family Welcome, held in the Garden of Hope. The students shared their musical talents and hearts to the delight of some of the newest members of the SD community.
VP students also visited the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael convent and performed for some of the community's longest-standing members, including Sister Marion, who celebrated her 75th Jubilee as a Dominican Sister last year. The VP students shared selections from their upcoming All School Concert, which will also feature Lower School violinists and cellists.
VP President Brittney H. ’25 astounded the audience with a virtuosic performance of Scherzo-Tarantelle by Henryk Wieniawski. Ian B. ’27 performed a poignant “Ave Maria” with his parents and grandmother in attendance, all of whom are Dominican University alumni and friends of the sisters. “It was a joyful opportunity for the VP students to gain valuable performance experience and connect with the sisters,” shared newly-appointed Virtuoso Program Music Director Alexandra Simpson.
During the small reception that followed the performance, the students had the chance to meet and interact with the sisters, who expressed their sincere gratitude for the visit. Several sisters mentioned that the concert gave them hope for the future, and shared how much it meant, especially for those with mobility issues, to have music brought directly to the convent.
One sister even asked, “Can you come every week?” A request we all wish could be fulfilled!
