VP Spring Chamber Concert Delights the House
VP Spring Chamber Quartets Concert

On Wednesday evening, we were treated to an intimate and diverse program of chamber music as performed by small ensembles of students in the Virtuoso Program, San Domenico’s pre-college music program for classical string musicians. This is always one of our students’ favorite concerts to present, as music for quartet is uniquely demanding, rewarding quick communication, shared leadership, expression, and dynamism. From Beethoven’s stormy late Classicism to the rich romanticism of Schubert and Bacewicz’s 20th-century lyrical modernism, it was a tour through 150 years of music written for strings, each with their own nuance of style, technique, and emotion.

The ensembles will gather one more time as a full string orchestra for their final concert on May 28, when we celebrate the generations of students who have made the Virtuoso Program what it is, featuring returning alumni, our graduating seniors, and welcoming the next generation of students. It’s guaranteed to be a thrilling and emotional performance and a fitting end to a stellar year of making music. I hope to see you there!
