Ramadan Mubarak
LS Ramadan Assembly

This week, K-8 students embraced the opportunity to learn about and honor Ramadan, one of the most sacred months in the Islamic calendar. Beginning on the evening of the crescent moon, the Lower and Middle schools recognized this important cultural event during our Friday student-led assemblies. Our fifth graders presented an informative slideshow exploring Ramadan's significance within the Islamic faith, while Director of Philosophy, Ethics, and World Religions Mirza Khan taught students traditional Arabic greetings, helping them connect with the Ramadan sentiments of peace and blessings.

Our Middle School Student Council continued this tradition of understanding, with eighth-grade students sharing their knowledge through a comprehensive presentation during their weekly assembly, and extended this to our Upper School by sending special Ramadan greetings to our Muslim boarding students.

Understanding that many Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset during this holy month—a practice that fosters gratitude and compassion—our dining services partner Epicurean has arranged special meal accommodations for boarding students observing the fast.

These activities reflect SD’s ongoing commitment to celebrating diverse cultural and spiritual traditions throughout the academic year, creating opportunities for our students to develop deeper understanding and respect for various global perspectives.
