Track and Field athletes advance to the Meet of Champions

In high school sports, versatility often separates the good from the great. And for the Panthers Track and Field team, their multisport athletes are not just excelling; they’re rewriting the playbook on success.

The team had a great showing at the NCS Class A Championships under the astute guidance of Head Coach Mark Churchill, and had their own remarkable achievements to celebrate. A staggering six athletes punched their tickets to the prestigious NCS Meet of Champions, an honor reserved for the elite few who demonstrate exceptional skill and dedication.

Among these standout performers is Petra B. ’27, who shattered multiple school records throughout the season, displaying her speed in the 100 and 200-meter races. Petra encapsulated the team’s camaraderie and aspirations for success at the Meet of Champions, saying, “It's been a great season, getting to run with my friends from SD and making new friends (and role models) with runners from other schools. My goal for Meet of Champions is to PR and qualify for the finals on Saturday. I wouldn’t have made it this far without my teammates and Coach Mike supporting me and pushing me at every practice. I’m looking forward to growing as a runner and athlete next year.”

At the same time, Joaquin F. ’24 showcased his endurance in the 800 and 1600 meters. Omar W. ’26 continues to impress us in the hurdles, tackling the 110 and 300-meter challenges with finesse. Devin P. ’25 and George K. ’24 displayed their long-distance prowess in the 1600 and 800 meters, respectively, while Chidera O. ’24 soared to new heights in the High Jump event.

Though they clearly excel at track and field, these student-athletes’ unwavering commitment to excellence across multiple disciplines truly sets this team apart. As Coach Churchill proudly notes, “all are multisport athletes who have significantly impacted this team. I’m incredibly proud of their willingness to step out of their comfort zones and try something new and positively represent SD as one of the best in the area.” Our student-athletes echoed this sentiment, with Chi expressing the satisfaction of seeing hard work translate into success and Omar relishing the opportunity to push boundaries and discover new capabilities within himself.

As the Panthers Track and Field team continues to shine, they inspire their peers and embody the spirit of athletics at SD. We’re wishing the team the best of luck at the Meet of Champions.
