Panthers Are State Champions!
SD Women's Varsity Basketball State Champions

On Friday, March 11, San Domenico outmatched Shalhevet High School 38-27 to be crowned 2022 Division 5 State Champions! The game was played in front of a passionate crowd of SD students and fans at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, home of the Sacramento Kings.

The Panthers started the game a little cold and found themselves down 7-4 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams kept pace in the second quarter, with Shalhevet taking a 14-11 lead into halftime. But in the second half, San Domenico took over with staunch defense, and it was only a matter of time before the offense got off to a roll.

“Hats off to San Domenico,” Shalhevet coach Ryan Coleman told the Los Angeles Times. “That’s the best-coached team we’ve faced.”

The close of the third quarter saw SD up 24-21, and there was no looking back from there. Lily Reeser ‘24 led the team in scoring with 12 points and 3 steals. We will update this post with more details as we get them!

It was a magical run through the tournament for the Panthers, who punched their ticket to the championship game with a victory in the NorCal Finals over second-seeded University High School on Tuesday. Just three days later, the Panthers can now call themselves state champions.

It’s a great day to be a Panther!
