Panther Spotlight: Devin P setting the pace in cross country

In the highly competitive world of high school cross-country, moments of triumph stand out as remarkable milestones. Devin P. '25 crossed the finish line in a sprint to victory at the BCL #3 Race, clinching the title of Boys Race Champion. Devin's achievement not only secured his place in the annals of sports history at our school but also marked the first time in San Domenico's history that a male athlete has won a BCL league meet.

Devin secured the win with an electrifying sprint, crossing the finish line in 15.57. We spoke to Devin about his mindset going into this race. When asked about his mental preparation, he revealed, “my mindset going into this meet was different than it usually is. I was recovering from an illness, and I was tired from another meet I had run in just two days before. Because of these two factors, I was not focused on running a fast time or the other people in the race. I just wanted to execute my best race on the day and put myself into a position to win.” Head coach Mark Churchill pointed out that his split-mile times—5:38, 5:18, and 5:08—show how he pulled off the win and highlight his progression as a runner.

Devin is keen to build off this race and continue his momentum into the league championships on Friday, November 3, the first of four races he's competing in during this championship season. As we look ahead, the schedule is packed with races. Following the league championships, Devin and his teammates will set their sights on the NCS Championships, scheduled for Saturday, November 18, with an opportunity to secure a place in the State Championships on Saturday, November 25.
