Panther Basketball Finishes Tremendous Season
Basketball Wrap-up

What a basketball season it was! From historic team successes to record-breaking individual accomplishments, the 2022-23 season was quite a memorable year.

Women’s Varsity Basketball

Our Women’s Varsity Basketball team finished another outstanding season by returning to the state championship game for the second year in a row. The Panthers fought valiantly but came up short in front of a raucous crowd at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, packed with seven busloads of SD students, faculty, and staff.

On their journey to the state championship, the team won their second consecutive NorCal Championship (this time in division IV) as a #1 seed in the sectional tournament. The Panthers finished the season with an outstanding 27-8 record and second place in the BCL West.

Maja C. ’23 and Lily R. ’24 earned First Team All League honors. Averey C. ’24 was tabbed Second Team All League, while Mattie G. ’24 earned Honorable Mention.

Men’s Varsity Basketball

Our Men’s Varsity Basketball team engineered a tremendous turnaround season this year. Finishing with a 22-9 record, the Panthers won 18 more games than they did in the previous season. I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes and what they accomplished this year. It is a testament to their humble commitment to a cause greater than themselves.

Here’s a quick rundown on their 2022-23 successes:

  • 22-9 record (6-4 BCL West)
  • #3 seed in Div 5 NCS
  • #7 seed in Div 4 NorCal
  • St. Vincent Holiday Tournament Champions
  • First Team All League Selection - Gytis G. ’23
  • Second Team All League Selection - Gavin E. ’25
  • Honorable Mention All League Selection - Matas B. ’23
  • Five Marin Independent Journal “Prep of the Week” Nominations

And most importantly, a huge thank you to the seniors (Maja C., Matas B., Gytis G., and Ozzie S.) who have raised our basketball programs to another level. Our community is better off for their dedication and selflessness.

JV Girls Basketball

The first ever JV Girls Basketball team had an excellent season. They exhibited great team spirit and camaraderie while making great strides in their basketball skills. Led by Coaches Mike Fulton and Matt Polsinello, the Panthers played extremely hard all year long. The season was highlighted by two wins over San Rafael in which the Panthers played outstanding defense.

  • Coaches Award: Delaney W. ’26
  • Most Improved Award: Ellie L. ’24
  • MVP: Maddy M. ’26

JV Boys Basketball

The JV Boys Basketball team exceeded expectations this season. They had an excellent pre-season and jumped out to a hot start with eight wins in their first 11 games. The Panthers had contributions up and down the roster with seven players scoring in double figures. As the season progressed, the team coalesced as a group and developed into a tight-knit group that was both competitive and respectful.

  • Coaches Award: Quan D. ’25
  • Most Improved Award: Oliver B. ’25
  • MVP: Omar W. ’26

Lower and Middle School Basketball

The San Domenico Middle School Basketball teams enjoyed a terrific season. The Middle School girls team—comprising sixth through eighth graders—competed in the Eighth Grade Marin Middle School League and won a couple games, including an impressive victory over Davidson. The Eighth Grade Boys team finished off a strong regular season last week and made it to the playoffs, including winning a tremendous play-in game against White Hill before losing to #1 seeded Del Mar in the playoffs. The Seventh Grade Boys A team will compete in the semifinals this week as the #1 seed. They finished the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record. The Seventh Grade Boys B team and the Fifth/Sixth Grade Boys team both had very successful seasons, including convincing wins over Mark Day. Our Third/Fourth Grade Girls team showed great spirit as they competed in the Hamilton Parks and Rec league. All of our Middle School teams represented San Domenico well - they worked hard, improved significantly over the course of the season, and showed great sportsmanship.

Finally, a huge thank you to all our fans, families and alumni for your support and generosity. Please feel free to reach out to me and I look forward to staying in touch during the offseason.

Go Panthers!
