San Domenico families, students, teachers, and staff showed up with their hearts, hands, and energy for our inaugural San Domenico MLK National Day of Service. As a community, we honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy by spending part of the holiday doing service, building connections, strengthening our community, and making a tangible impact.
Throughout the weekend and Monday, the SD community participated in a variety of service efforts on campus and in the greater Marin community, including supporting Marin SF Food Bank, SD campus trail maintenance, sprucing up the Garden of Hope, making cat and dog toys and baking dog biscuits for local animal shelters, creating hygiene kits for local non-profit Ritter Center, cleaning up MLK Memorial Park in Santa Rosa, prepping the fields at Rancho Compasión Farm for spring planting, and cleaning up trash at Baker Beach.
“Whether people participated in service activities or simply shared a smile and kind words throughout the day,” shares Assistant Head of School for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Brian Davis, “our community brought Dr. King’s vision of unity and service to life. The sense of purpose and camaraderie was palpable, and it was a privilege to witness so many of us embracing the spirit of giving and making a difference. Thanks to everyone who was part of this meaningful day and for helping make it so special. Your efforts inspire hope, change, and unity, and I am so proud of what we achieved together.”
We offer our deepest thanks to those who generously donated your time and supplies for service activities. While every day is an opportunity for service and to do good in the world, our efforts in celebration of MLK Day of Service contributed not only to immediate improvements, but also to inspiring ongoing service, empowering other SD community members, and fostering a culture of civic responsibility.
