From Advanced Dance's encore performance of "Radioactive," to the Rock Band's rousing rendition of "Start Me Up," to the original play The Two Sisters, written by the Sixth Grade Theatre Arts class, to the guitar and chorus collaboration on Joni Mitchell's timeless "Big Yellow Taxi," our Middle School performing arts students presented a dazzling array of their talents and hard work.
“It was a celebration of their perseverance and growth over the course of the year,” shared Director of Music Rob DeNunzio. “With visuals and posters provided by our Middle School artists, and transitional music by our Sixth Grade Digital Music class, it truly lived up to its name of "Arts in Action"!
Director of Dance and Theatre Arts Erica Smith was thrilled to see the collaboration between young artists of all stripes, who soaked up instruction from a variety of specialist arts instructors. “I'm really proud that our school takes the arts seriously and brings in teachers who are working dance and music professionals. Not only do we teach the arts skillset, the students have an eye into the world view that one can create a life in the arts.”
The transformative power of the Middle School arts isn't limited to the stage alone. Students in Art Teacher Sally Houston’s Visual Arts classes explored a wide range of artistic traditions and cultural influences this year, gaining a deeper understanding of the world around them in the process.
