Happy Holi!

At San Domenico, our students learn about and celebrate many different cultures and religions. This week we celebrated Holi, the Hindu festival of colors that heralds the arrival of spring, in a lively assembly in the gym hosted by the Upper School Multicultural Club. The K-12 audience clapped along to songs performed by the kindergarten and SD Chorus, tapped their toes to dancers performing in brightly colored cloaks, and listened raptly to an enactment of traditional Indian Holi stories. The grand finale followed, when grades 8-12 headed outside to participate in the traditional throwing of colored powders.

Holi is a time when barriers of religion, class, language, ethnicity, and gender fade away, and offers us a powerful reminder of what it means to come together across differences. In a world that may feel divided, we come together to celebrate the spring holidays of Holi, Passover, Easter, Ramadan, and Nowruz, with a wish for all to create more joy, compassion, and hope!
