From Oracle Park to Campus Labyrinth: Alumni Journey Home to San Domenico

See more photos of alumni weekend here.

This past weekend, San Domenico welcomed home over 100 alumni for a heartwarming and festive reunion with alumni ranging over 70 years - the Class of 1948 and the Class of 2020 in attendance. The celebrations began Friday evening as over 70 alumni gathered at Oracle Park to cheer on the San Francisco Giants, and a Giants win set the tone for a weekend filled with joy and reconnection.

Saturday brought our campus to life with the spirit of San Domenico. Alumni swam in the pool, rallied on the tennis courts, and joined teacher Aran Levasseur for a meaningful conversation about awe, mindfulness, and the role of nature in education. Their meditative walk concluded at the newly relocated campus labyrinth, an award-winning student-led service project by Senior Kaia Berg-Smith, recipient of the ROSE/Julie Davis Butler Award. This year also marked the first on-campus alumni Mass since before the pandemic, graciously hosted by the Dominican Sisters.

Later in the day, alums joined Directors Shelley Flint and Kathy Hagee for a discussion on San Domenico’s commitment to sustainability and service. In true SD fashion, guests even left with tomato starts to plant at home, growing reminders of the values we share.

The community then gathered for a delicious lunch honoring this year’s Distinguished Alumni. Ashley Eagle-Gibbs ’00 was recognized for her leadership in sustainability here in Marin, while Vincenzo Calcagno ’21 was celebrated for his accomplishments as a musician, now heading to Yale School of Music for his master’s degree. Their journeys reflect the depth and diversity of San Domenico alumni talent.

The weekend closed with a heartfelt and robust rendition of our Alma Mater, a perfect finish to a gathering full of joy, gratitude, and the enduring SD spirit. Following the song, alumni gathered once more to celebrate the grand opening of the Sister Gervaise Valpey, OP Community Center, a new space dedicated to connection, reflection, and the vibrant community that defines San Domenico.
