Dorm News: Welcoming Spring
Boarding student activities: redwoods, lying in the tall grass, soccer, in Mercedes

This week, our students enjoyed exploring the great outdoors! Our area was blessed with some beautiful weather, including some hot sunny days over the three-day weekend!

On Saturday, some of our students took a trip to Roy’s Redwoods, a popular local hiking trail and lookout point. Sela F. ’24, Martin P .’25, and Resident Faculty Sally Smith enjoyed the wonderful weather, resting between hikes by taking selfies in the grass. Sela F. enjoyed some fun photos in our local California Redwood trees, known for being large enough to accommodate several students sitting inside the opening! For students craving rest and relaxation, we curled up in Mercedes Lounge to watch Disney movies while making matcha lattes from scratch.

On Monday, our students enjoyed an additional—and unexpectedly gorgeous!—day off from school. Students Gui G. ’27 and Bryan L. ’27 headed to Kesterson Field to play pick-up soccer. The day was a largely quiet one, with students working on the flurry of tasks to prepare for the week ahead, including homework, cleaning their rooms and laundry, and catching up with peers as they returned from the long weekend. As the evening continued, Aarya C. ’24 and Kayla L .’26 worked on some shared homework, while being entertained by Martin P. and Sela F. in Mercedes Lounge.

Our spring sports are now in full swing! Badminton, men’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s golf, and beach volleyball have started practices and competed in their first games and meets. Matej S. ’25, Rosie S. ’25, Miranda D. ’24, and Mazalit G. ’27 had their first track meet in San Francisco’s Kezar Stadium on Tuesday, giving a strong showing in each of their events! Men’s tennis hosted and won their first match against local rival Drew College Prep, featuring athletes Gavin K. ’24, Quan D. ’25, Alastair K. ’24, Arda K. ’24, Tuan L. ’25, Mark P. ’25, and Harry W. ’26.
