Dorm News: Turkey and Soccer!
Watching the World Cup in the Dorms

Last week, although SD was closed for Thanksgiving break, the fun didn’t stop. Many of our boarding students returned home, visited with day students and their families, and spent time with extended family or hosts in the area.

On Thanksgiving Day, some boarding students headed to Head of Upper School Kate Reeser’s home or to other students' homes to enjoy a traditional American Thanksgiving meal. Those who stayed on campus donned Brazilian soccer jerseys to cheer on their favorite World Cup team while grilling steak and sausages for themselves and resident faculty. They then took a trip to a Brazilian restaurant in Larkspur before ending the day with a more traditional Thanksgiving dinner in the dining hall. Resident faculty and students alike joined in celebration and gratitude.

Throughout the break, Resident Faculty Chad Rockwell hosted spirited board games, fierce video game competitions, and trivia nights for all to participate in, not to mention the time-honored American tradition of lazing around after the Thanksgiving meal.

Upon returning to campus after break, students were greeted by the arrival of cold winter weather. This week begins a rush of academic, athletic, musical, and personal pursuits before the semester ends in mid-December. Everyone is looking forward to the Tableaux performance and other special seasonal celebrations with friends and host families.

We sincerely hope that everyone’s time off was restful and full of joy!
