The San Domenico Men’s Tennis team secured a monumental victory against cross-town rivals Marin Academy on Tuesday, April 16, the first in the program’s history since the school’s transition to co-education in 2015.
There were several standout performances on the day. Toby S. ’27 led the charge with a commanding victory at #1 singles, displaying resilience and finesse in a 7-5, 6-3 win. Joining him in the winner’s circle were Gavin K. ’24 at #2 singles and Parker S. ’24 at #3 singles, each showcasing their mettle with impressive score lines of 6-0, 6-4 and 6-0, 1-6, 11-9 respectively. The team’s collective effort culminated in a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
Building upon this historic win, the team continued its winning streak with an emphatic 5-0 victory over International High School on Wednesday, April 17, coinciding with Senior Day celebrations. Toby S. ’27 once again showcased his dominance at #1 singles, delivering a flawless performance with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory. Gavin K. ’24 and Parker S. ’24 followed suit with impressive wins at #2 and #3 singles, while both doubles teams, led by Arda K. ’24 / Harry W. ’26 and Alton B. ’26 / Tuan L. ’25, secured crucial wins to seal the team’s win.
The victory signifies a pivotal moment in the team’s journey, underscoring the power of dedication and perseverance on the court. Coach Rob Jessen reflected on the monumental win against Marin Academy, emphasizing its significance and the team’s unwavering belief in their abilities. “Picking up the team’s first win over MA was truly uplifting for the boys. Furthermore, the team clinched third place in the league standings for the first time in school history. With a league regular-season record of 5-3 and a non-league record of 2-1, the team’s success is a testament to their unwavering commitment to improvement throughout the years.
