Board and Leadership
The San Domenico School Board of Trustees is the guardian of the School’s mission. It is the Board’s responsibility to ensure that the mission is relevant and vital to the community it serves, and to monitor the success of the School in fulfilling its mission.
The Board focuses on three areas critical to the success of San Domenico:
- It selects, evaluates, and supports the Head of School, to whom it delegates authority to manage the School.
- It develops broad institutional policies that guide the Head in running the School.
- It is accountable for the financial well-being of the school.
The Board does not intervene in the daily affairs of the School, such as curriculum development and hiring, evaluating, or firing of faculty and staff. Concerns about those areas should be brought to school administrators.
Parents, guardians, faculty, and staff can stay informed about the work of the Board of Trustees by reading communications, talking to the Head of School, and attending Family Association meetings.
San Domenico’s Board of Trustees currently organizes itself into the following committees:
- Advancement Committee
- Audit Committee
- Committee on Trustees
- Executive Committee
- Finance Committee
- Investment Committee
- Master Planning & Facilities
- Mission Enhancement Committee

Interim Head of School
Michael J. McGill, M.Ed.
Mike McGill brings to San Domenico 37 years of experience as a teacher, division head, and head of school. He holds a BA in English from Santa Clara University and a master’s in education from Harvard University with a focus on administration, planning and social policy. Most recently, Mike has served as interim head of school at Sequoyah School in Pasadena, California, where he led initiatives to address compensation issues, ensure greater curricular and cultural cohesion across the three divisions of the school, successfully guide the school’s CAIS re-accreditation process, and update and professionalize the governance structures and processes of the school.
Mike McGill grew up in San Francisco as the oldest of four siblings. He and his wife, Ellen, have been married for 37 years and have three grown children. The McGill family also includes Cora, an eight-year-old golden retriever mix rescue from Iran, and Remy, a two-year-old standard poodle.
Mike was attracted by San Domenico's commitment to helping each student find meaning and purpose in their education, and to inspiring them to apply their academic knowledge to the challenges of our times. Throughout his career, he has led many efforts to make schools more equitable and sustainable. Having spent more than half his career in settings with international boarding departments, he looks forward to returning to one whose population comes from all over the world.
