San Domenico Family Association (FA)

Volunteer FA Board Scrip Programs Uniform Closet

Dear Panther Familes,

Over the last six years, this volunteer SD Board and members of our Association proactively examined, extensively collaborated, and strategized how SD families could best support our school through volunteerism and community building experiences while tangibly leaning into the legacy of our SD values: reflection, study, service, and community. Over the years, each volunteer invested a piece of themself, their love and energy, as well as their trust to challenge and engage this process by setting interim Board goals as we worked toward our larger objective. Supported by our administration and 172-year-old mission, we intentionally sought to discover what belonging means at San Domenico, essentially working to evolve Board mechanisms so that every member of our community feels welcomed and valued for who they are.

With this lens, it is an honor for us to introduce our new organization title and bylaws. We have officially become the San Domenico Family Association Board (SD FAB), and our new bylaws are now in effect. Moving forward, leaders in each grade will be referred to as Class Representatives (Class Reps). We also restructured the SD Family Association Board positions to focus Board support on the needs of each school level, while integrating our Lower, Middle, and Upper School’s unique identities into a more holistic K-12 community perspective.

These changes impact you in particular, as every family with currently enrolled students is a member of the SD Family Association. Yet, our responsibility in evolving has not only been to you, our current members, it is to those who will join us in the years to come. May they have a positive and welcoming pathway to get involved, foster family connectedness with each other and our school, and authentically feel they belong in our San Domenico community.

We are pleased to share that Harlan Kennedy, father of Sophomore twins Ellie & Maeve, is our first SD Family Association Board President. Along with this year’s Board, he has dedicated significant time and thought to help chart our updated bylaws and will guide us into our future with his empathetic and open-minded leadership style.
Jointly, we recognize that we must further the conversation of boldly pursuing how we evolve volunteering at SD, and the need for creating opportunities that strengthen the fabric of our friendships and school-wide partnerships. These themes will continue to be at the center of our SD Family Association discussions next year. So, we encourage you to get involved by reaching out to your Class Reps, school level VPs and Family Association Board members to share your ideas. We want to hear from you!

With deep appreciation for our 2022 Board & SD Administration team—which is, by far, the reason for our accomplishments and growth this year—we are now poised to positively impact our entire community with renewed passion and clearer vision.

Together, we wish you a joyful end to this school year. May your summer be filled with moments of peace and the time to reflect on what matters most to you, in community with those you love.

From our hearts to yours,

Tara Evans Boyce ’90
SD PSA President 2017-19, 21-22

Harlan Kennedy
SD FAB President, 2022-23

Our involvement takes the form of:

  • Developing community among parents
  • Deepening parent connection with the school
  • Providing support for school-sponsored events
  • Bridging communication between parents and the school
  • Supporting fundraising opportunities through the Spring Gala, Fund-A-Need, Uniform Closet, and Scrip Programs, all of which broaden our children's education program, such as scholarships and professional development opportunities.

Community & School Sponsored Events

In a typical year, we have many community and school sponsored events over the course of the year. However, this year is going to be a bit different. We are exploring creative alternative ways to bring the community together, so please stay tuned!

Bridging Communication

During the year, you will receive communications with updates from your class parents to keep you well-informed and linked in with your child’s teachers and moderators.

Volunteering

Volunteering is an important part of FA. In a typical year, there are ample opportunities to get involved in all of the great community building events, school-related events, classroom activities, and fundraising opportunities at San Domenico. Although our spirits are there, on-campus involvement is restricted at the moment. We are hard at work putting our brains together to remotely support the school and the families.

Your help is greatly appreciated by the Faculty and Staff!
