Weekly Reflection May 2, 2022
Hills above SD spring 2022

I have always enjoyed graduation speeches. The speaker has about 10 or 15 minutes to try to tell the audience what they believe is the purpose of life. As we prepare for the end of the year in our Wayfinder class, we are beginning each class with a famous commencement address – President Obama, Bill Gates, Isabel Allende’s beautiful speech at San Domenico in 2010. But my favorite is Anne Lamott, Berkeley 2003.

Our reflection this week comes from that speech:

Your problem is how you are going to spend this one odd and precious life you have been issued. Whether you're going to spend it trying to look good and creating the illusion that you have power over people and circumstances, or whether you are going to taste it, enjoy it and find out the truth about who you are.

You are not your bank account, or your ambitiousness. You’re not your collection of walking personality disorders. You are spirit, you are love, and, while it is increasingly hard to believe, you are free.

Have a wonderful week!

With love,
Mirza
