SD’s annual Spanish Immersion Weekend is a tradition where participants enjoy a weekend of foreign food, dance, and cultural traditions— all while speaking only in Spanish! This year was another success, thanks to Maestra Moore and Maestra Wood’s spirit and patience. Everybody rose to the challenge with occasional fumbling and humor. All attendees learned to dance salsa, ate tacos, and sang Spanish karaoke. Following a Mexican tradition for Easter and Cinco de Mayo, we filled eggs with confetti and cracked them over each other’s heads. After sleeping in the dorms, we cooked huevos rancheros in the garden. Returning home, forming English syllables was strange and unfamiliar to us!
