PANTHER SPOTLIGHT: Varsity Basketball Busy over Break
Women's Basketball players on the court

Our Men's and Women's Varsity Basketball teams were busy as ever during the holiday break, making SD proud in several tournaments.

The women took second place in the West Coast Jamboree. They fought hard in the finals against San Marin, but came up just short, 38-31. Maja Cykowska and Lily Reeser were dominant throughout, earning themselves a spot on the All-Tournament Team, while Jillian Bizjack won the tournament Sportsmanship Award for exemplifying the ideals of sportsmanship with her ethical behavior, fair play, and integrity. Women’s Varsity—now ranked #8 in all of California for Division 5 schools!—resumes competition on January 11 at Urban High School in San Francisco.

The Men’s Varsity team was busy with two tournaments over the holidays, taking second place in the Berean Christian Holiday Tournament and finishing out the 25th Annual Baumbauer Classic at Archie Williams with a 63-43 victory over Mills High School. Junior Matas Burinskas, Sophomore Drew Moorehouse, and Senior Jimmy Hoagland were each named to the All-Tournament Team for their outstanding performances at the Berean Christian holiday tournament. Men’s Varsity resumes competition on January 11 at home against Urban.
