In order to share more of our amazing community here at SD, we offer this weekly #FacesOfSD to give you a chance to learn more about our faculty and staff. Today, we are thrilled to introduce Nancy Meyer, Front Desk Receptionist and Transportation Coordinator.
Born and raised in Chicago, Nancy graduated from Southern Illinois University, with a degree in Journalism/Advertising. She had a successful career as a national radio representative, selling airtime, in Chicago. That career continued when she moved to San Francisco, in 1986. In 1996, she became a media buyer, and that eventually led to the development of her own media buying service, a career that lasted for several years. Next, she says she began a new chapter in her life, working at San Domenico, in November of 2012. She has lived in Fairfax, since 1988, and she has a “wonderful, 26-year-old son, who currently resides in Chicago.” She says that her interests are varied, but some of her favorites include hiking, listening to live music, socializing with friends, and supporting the SF Giants.
Q. Full name?
A. Nancy Meyer
Q. Where were you born?
A. Chicago, Illinois
Q. Favorite word?
A. Gratitude. I am so grateful to be happy, healthy and living in Fairfax. I am especially grateful for my son, my great friends, my dog, Buddy, and a roof over my head. I never want to take any of it for granted and make sure I write down at least one thing I'm grateful for every day. The secret to happiness is attitude. The secret to attitude is gratitude.
Q. What do you do here at San Domenico? And what is your favorite part of your job?
A. I am the Front Desk Receptionist and Transportation Coordinator (think buses!) for San Domenico. My favorite part of my job is the opportunity to get to know just about everyone who works here. I also get to meet most of the students and everyone who visits the campus. It's a large and beautiful campus, but everyone comes through the front doors of the library eventually, and I get to meet them!
Q. Which Dominican value inspires you the most this week and why? (Study, Reflection, Community, or Service?)
A. Service. I like helping others, even if it's small things, like answering questions or directing visitors. On a larger scale, doing service for others less fortunate really puts the focus on them and puts my life into perspective. And it always feels good to help someone else out.
Q. What are your plans for the weekend?
A. This weekend I will spend my time recovering from the holidays! I don't have any major plans yet but hope to start that New Year's resolution of being more fit by doing some hiking or yoga and not eating any ice cream or chocolate. I'll also watch at least one of the Golden State Warriors games.
Nancy, you are a hub of much that happens at San Domenico. Thank you for helping us to keep track of so many children, packages, buses, calls, visitors, etc. We are so grateful for your caring, concern, and presence in our SD community. Thank you for all you do!
