In order to share more of our amazing community here at SD, we offer this weekly #FacesOfSD to give you a chance to learn more about our faculty and staff. Today, we are thrilled to introduce Mirza Khan, Director of Religious Studies.
Q. Full name?
A. Amirzade Inayat Khan al-Pathan Chisti
Q. Favorite word?
Q. What do you do here at San Domenico? And what is your favorite part of your job?
A. As Director of Religious Studies, I love every part of my job. This year I had a chance to teach religion to our third grade students, and I was so amazed and touched by their sincerity and their inquisitiveness.
Q. Which Dominican value inspires you the most this week and why? (Study, Reflection, Community, or Service?)
A. Reflection. I am slowly learning that prayer is not about talking, it is about listening.
Q. What might an average weekend look like, for you?
A. Sitting at the playground reading a book (currently, The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell) while my children play.
Q. List your most significant professional and/or academic accomplishments, to date.
A. My greatest academic accomplishment was finding my place here at San Domenico. I have been here for almost 10 years. My work is so beautiful and joyful. And this community is so meaningful to me. I want to be here the rest of my life.
Q. What was your best, professional, "I wish someone had seen this" moment?
A. I am teaching something I love right now. Come visit my class!
Mirza, from the safe haven you create in which our students can explore their feelings and beliefs, to the inclusive spiritual sacredness you to bring to so many moments of our community life - and let us not forget the amazing videos and power points - thank you. We are so grateful to have you in our community!
