#FacesOfSD - Liz Miranda

In order to share more of our amazing community here at SD, we offer this weekly #FacesOfSD to give you a chance to learn more about our faculty and staff. Today we are thrilled to introduce Liz Miranda, Middle School Spanish and Yearbook Teacher.

Q. Full name?

A. Elizabeth Anne (Anne with an E just like Anne of Green Gables) Miranda

Q. Where were you born?

A. I was born in Hayward, CA, and grew up in Fremont. MC Hammer lived in Fremont.

Q. Favorite word?

A. Family. I love to tell people I am from a family of 11 kids. It always surprises everyone. My parents did an amazing job raising 11 hardworking children. Nine of my siblings have graduated college. The youngest two are almost finished with college. My father could make up a game in seconds. He knew how to have fun. My mother is extremely organized and talented. I still call her every time I am boiling eggs or have a cold. She knows the perfect home remedy.

Q. What do you do here at San Domenico? And what is your favorite part of your job?

A. I teach 6th and 7th Grade Spanish at San Domenico, as well as Yearbook. I love that I get to be creative and have fun every day with my students. I have somehow managed to find a career where singing, art, dancing, playing games, and learning new jokes are all in a day's work (a.k.a. my lesson plan). In the words of Dale Carnegie, “People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing.”

Q. Which Dominican value inspires you the most this week and why? (Study, Reflection, Community, or Service)

A. Community. Community inspires me the most because it is the only value that requires another person. I love people. I have been asked in the past if you could define your religion in words how would you describe it. I would say “Love God and love your neighbor.” Community is about loving our neighbor.

Q. What are your plans for the weekend?

A. This weekend I hope to spend time with my husband and my little dog “Blanca” and to ride my bike with some friends.

Liz, for every student you put at ease in your Spanish classes, for every person you inspire with your enthusiasm, and for your tremendous team work on every project you get involved in, thank you for everything you do here at SD. We are grateful to have you as part of our community!
