San Domenico School News & Events

Earth Day 2021

At San Domenico, we strive to honor the Earth and our natural world with our daily actions and ecoliteracy curriculum woven into all programming. We also engage in a variety of special events for Earth Day. This year, students celebrated with a campus-wide scavenger hunt that took place over three days, to allow for adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols.

Last week, students from all school levels participated in a sustainability scavenger hunt to celebrate Earth Day. Students were given a wide variety of environmental topics to learn about and tasked with an action for each including auditing recycling bins, searching for evidence of energy and water conservation on campus, identifying flora and fauna, and checking out our solar energy production in real time. There was also an Earth Day cookie treat to enjoy in the afternoon, prepared by the Epicurean Dining staff.

In addition to our All School activities, there were myriad other projects to honor the Earth: Middle School students planted a tree in the Garden of Hope, Mandarin class created rock designs, the Garden Club planted warm season crops, and Lower School students sang Earth Day-related songs in music class. All day, the campus was alive with joy and learning about our most precious planet.
