As many of our boarding students mentioned last week in their expressions of gratitude, our sports teams have created a lot of energy and joy throughout campus. We are fortunate to have a lot of coaches and athletes in our boarding program, not to mention our Athletic Director and Resident Faculty, Mark Churchill. Our Varsity Badminton team, led by Resident Faculty Coach Julie Lanzarin, and consisting primarily of boarding students, finished their season undefeated. We also have many boarding students on our Varsity Soccer team, and the boys just won their first match. We have many boarding students working hard on the Track team, Volleyball, Mountain Bike, Swimming, and Tennis teams as well. And though we started the year not knowing if we’d be able to play basketball this year, basketball is officially underway at San Domenico, with Resident Faculty Coach Mike Fulton leading our Varsity Mens’ team.
It has been especially exciting to watch these games on livestream, listening to our own Coach Skaggs provide colorful commentary. We’ve enjoyed a few communal livestream games in Mercedes, which was fun. Even better was being able to go down to the gym to watch a recent game. As Julie Lanzarin described, “It feels like we’re returning to normal,” a sentiment Luka R. echoed, “I feel like things are getting back to how things were before. It gives me hope.” Sierra noted that “attending the games is better for the team than watching the livestream because they can hear us cheer.” Kara added, “It not only lifts their spirits to hear us cheering, but it lifts ours to be there cheering them on as well.”
Congratulations to all of the coaches, athletes, and supportive spectators in our boarding community. To watch livestream sports visit, www.sandomenico.org/livesports. Go Panthers!
