Alumni Spotlight: Edie Paczkowski '20, Reed College

Edie Paczkowski, matriculating to Reed College

Edie quickly immersed herself in the San Domenico community when she joined us as a sophomore. “When I first transferred to San Domenico I knew what I was interested in but was afraid of exploring these interests out of fear of being the ‘new kid.’ But with an encouraging community I built confidence and was able to expand my horizons by participating in dance performances, doing tech for the school musicals, and running for Student Council. San Domenico has prepared me for my college experience by allowing me to explore my interests without fear of failure of judgement. I have studied ballet at the pre professional level, interned at The Tenement Museum in NYC, served as Honor Council President, led workshops as a One Love Foundation Teen Ambassador, and worked at two local businesses. Recently with the help of my classmates I have created a film for The One Love Foundation that has premiered at film festivals in Copenhagen, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and Canada.”

Edie will matriculate to Reed College in Portland, OR this fall where she will study History and Russian while continuing to pursue ballet. “Being a person of many interests, I was drawn to Reed, as it was one of the only colleges where I could continue to dance at a pre-professional level while pursuing history through museum internships abroad. I am especially excited  by the vibrant, supportive and unique community. Being around others who care deeply about their interests will propel me to explore new ideas and go father than what I expect of myself. As a new member of the Reedie community, Edie is “most excited about potentially studying abroad in Russia. WhIle I do not speak Russian, I have always wanted to work at an art or history museum abroad. This program is built solely on internships at museums like The Hermitage Museum and will allow me to explore a career as a curator while immersing myself in a foreign culture. I look forward to taking that confidence to college and know that my experience at San Domenico will help me be assertive, creative, and driven.”
