Robin Huffman is one of the chemistry teachers in the Upper School and has over 17 years of high school science teaching experience. After graduating from UC Berkeley with a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Robin was employed as a Research Scientist studying how exercise training affects the type of fuels our body burns while at rest and during exercise. After working in a laboratory setting for four years, she decided to take her love of science and passion for learning to a different level - teaching it to others. Robin received her Teaching Credential and Masters in Education from Dominican University in San Rafael and has never looked back.
Robin teaches because she loves to connect with the students and is fascinated by the ever-changing world of science. Through her love of teaching and science, she shares her excitement about the learning chemistry. She continues to change her curriculum so that it is current and tied to real world connections hoping to inspire the students to continue their studies in science. She shares her passion for knowing the details of chemistry and other classes, seeing the big picture and how all that we are learning is related to our surrounding environment.
Robin celebrates the San Domenico community and the environment. Whether in her classroom, walking down the halls or riding up Mt. Tam with her SD Mountain Bike team, she looks forward to the opportunity to interact with the students on many different levels. Robin welcomes the students to her classroom for class, to study or to visit. She believes that a connection between the teacher and student helps the students feel more confident in their ability to ask questions as well as their desire to want to perform better. Helping a student succeed is one of her favorite feelings. Robin also believes that every teacher, staff member, student, and parent is a special part of the community and has an integral part in making the community whole.
"My favorite part of being a member of the San Domenico community is the people at San Domenico! Everyone – the teachers, staff and students - are an amazing group of people. Everyday I am inspired by the work and dedication of my colleagues. I love the support and friendships that have developed through spending time and sharing ideas with each other. I also enjoy the energy and intellectual curiosity of the students. San Domenico is a wonderful place to work!"
