About San Domenico 

San Domenico is an independent K–12 day and boarding school in Marin County, California, 30 minutes north of San Francisco. Founded in 1850, it is the oldest independent school in the State. The School serves approximately 680 students on a 515-acre campus, with a residential program enrolling students from more than 20 countries.

San Domenico provides a unique boarding experience rooted in rigorous academics, meaningful student connections, and proximity to the cultural and educational resources of the Bay Area. 

About the Role

Resident Faculty (RFs) provide supervision and advising that support the intellectual, physical, emotional, social and spiritual growth of the students. An RF serves as a role model, mediator, and mentor. 

Successful RFs are relationship-centered adults who are committed to supporting adolescents as they grow and develop. They are caring, approachable, and appropriately boundaried, and able to build trust with students while maintaining clear expectations and professional judgment. RFs are visible, engaged members of the community who understand that meaningful relationships are built through consistency, presence, and everyday interactions. They recognize that their influence extends beyond formal duties and are committed to helping students feel known, valued, and connected.

Resident Faculty are flexible, dependable, and willing to contribute wherever needed in support of the community. They approach the work with humility, a sense of humor, and a willingness to learn, recognizing that life in a boarding community requires adaptability, teamwork, and a shared commitment to student development and well-being. This role reports to the Director of Residential Life. 

Job responsibilities of an Off-Campus Resident Faculty

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety and wellbeing of all residents.
  • Work regular shifts as scheduled by the Director of Residential Life:
    • ONLY weekend shifts available: 12-6pm Saturday and 12-6pm Sunday (weekend availability is required) 
    • Duties include: 
      • driving and leading off-campus trips to nature/outdoor activities, local sight-seeing excursions, and other destinations as assigned
      • being on campus for boarding student supervision
      • perform weekend meal sign-ins
  • Further the mission of the school by undertaking every reasonable step and opportunity to create and maintain a learning environment that promotes intellectual curiosity, academic challenge, personal growth, personal accountability, tolerance, self-initiative, and community service and involvement.
  • Foster a culture where students learn independence and self-awareness that prepares them for college and beyond.
  • Foster an environment where integrity and respect for self and others is paramount.
  • Attend scheduled Resident Faculty meetings and trainings.
  • Available to be on duty for all events associated with both the opening and closing weekends (“all-hands” weekends) of the school year.
  • Possible additional holiday duties each semester. Responsibilities may include departure and arrival for major holidays, checking students out or in, or driving shuttles to and from transportation hubs
  • Follow all protocols regarding correct communications, walkie-talkies, and check-in and sign-out procedures for students.
  • Refer late-night emergencies to the Administrator on Duty or other on-duty Resident Faculty though may have some overnight or late-night duties both scheduled (e.g. await expected late returning students) and unexpected (e.g. assist with emergencies, help with sick/injured students).
  • Assist with all emergency situations when on campus (e.g., fire alarms and lockdowns).
  • Hold the duty phone as assigned on a rotating basis (up to one night per week).
  • Transport students in school vans to trips, appointments and excursions, as assigned. 
  • Help with weekly dorm floor meetings.
  • Enforce the rules as listed in both the Boarding Program Student Handbook and Resident Faculty Handbook and administer discipline in accordance with discipline policies and procedures.
  • Know emergency protocols in the emergency preparedness manual and respond appropriately.
  • Keep up to date on training with REACH/help maintain student information on REACH.
  • Regularly review assigned work schedules and provide advance notice of any anticipated absences or requests for schedule changes. Help ensure coverage when not able to attend assigned shift.
  • Ensure that boarding schedules and curfews are being met and followed.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Computer proficiency (iPad, Mac computer, Gmail/Google Drive, experience with REACH, preferred)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and receive/maintain clearance to drive from our insurance company
  • Experience with and demonstrated interest in teenagers/teen programs
  • Dormitory experience preferred

Compensation

This is an hourly, non-exempt position. The pay is $33.02 per hour with lunch/dinner provided, depending on shift time. Part-time or Full-time positions of 0.50 FTE or greater are eligible for benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and a matching 403(b) plan.
