Music Conservatory - Middle School
The Music Conservatory offers a wide array of options for students, including strings, piano, woodwinds, and vocal. Whether a student is just beginning an instrument, or is at an advanced level, Conservatory faculty works with parents to place the student in lessons and ensembles serving musical needs. Students enrolled in the Music Conservatory’s programs participate in recitals throughout the school year.
Students in grades 6 though 8 have numerous opportunities to expand their musical education whether they’ve never played an instrument or sang before, or if they’ve been studying privately from a young age.
Elective Music Classes: Students can choose between string orchestra, winds ensemble, chorus, group guitar, or group percussion class as electives that meet twice weekly during the school day. These classes focus on technique, music reading, and ense
mble performance, and participate in the annual holiday production, spring’s “Arts in Action”, and recitals. Some students also opt to use the elective music period time for private music lessons or to practice independently in the Music Conservatory’s studios.
Wildcat Bands: The Middle School rock bands (of which there are currently three) meet weekly in both sectionals and full ensemble, and not only perform on the holiday and “Arts in Action” concerts but are the featured performers on our annual “Day on the Green”. Students who wish to join the bands need to be taking private lessons on their instrument (either at San Domenico or elsewhere).
Advanced Vocal Ensemble: In addition to our regular chorus, we offer AVE, open to students by audition only. This middle school group meets twice weekly and focuses on advanced harmonizing and vocal technique, and performs in a number of school and community concerts.
Ukulele Social Club: This popular activity is open to all students regardless of their experience playing ukulele; all they need is an instrument and positive attitude! The ukulele club meets with Rob DeNunzio Mondays and Fridays during activity period, weather permitting, outside the Library.
Private and group music instruction: Many Middle School families choose the Music Conservatory for their children’s private music instruction. Private students have many opportunities to perform, including four recitals annually. Group lessons and chamber music coaching is also available.
Families interested in our programs are always welcome to visit the Conservatory where we are always happy to give tours and answer any questions you may have about private or group instruction, elective course offerings, after school classes, and performance schedules.
