Student Profile

A typical Virtuoso Program student:
• Is a high school female string player who is passionate about music;
• Seeks to explore her potential for a music career while also focusing on academics;
• Enjoys challenging herself to improve, learn, and excel in all areas of life;
• Aspires to develop and share her musical gifts with her community.

Many of our students have not yet decided if they would like to pursue a career in music so they wish to spend their high school years developing a variety of skills while doing what they love: music, academics, student government, social service, theater arts, sports, and more. However, achievement of advanced musical technique is attained through intensive training and practice undertaken at an early age and so the developmental years between age 12 and 18 are especially critical for musicians. The Virtuoso Program gives a talented young musician the opportunity to reach a pre-professional performance level without abandoning her other interests.

The Virtuoso Program has been thoughtfully designed to address the diverse and specialized needs of the young artist who wants to devote significant time to her music, challenge herself with the rigorous demands of performance, and who will flourish in an intellectually stimulating high school. San Domenico's academic classes are small, and the availability of honors and AP coursework across the curriculum makes it possible to tailor a student's program of study to her particular abilities and requirements.
