San Domenico School does it again!
San Domenico School’s Orchestra da Camera returned from the 2010 National Orchestra Festival® competition with two new trophies in tow: First Place High School String Orchestra, and Festival Grand Champion. The festival, sponsored by the American String Teachers Association (ASTA), took place in Santa Clara, California as part of ASTA’s national conference on February 18 – 20. This marked the third time in six years that the orchestra, comprised of students in San Domenico’s elite Virtuoso Program for talented teenage musicians, has been invited to compete and returned as winners, having taken home the same trophies at their appearances at the festival in 2008 and 2005.

San
Domenico offers a special educational opportunity for bright, talented
young musicians who enjoy challenging themselves to improve, learn and
excel in all areas of life.
The Virtuoso Program is a
pre-professional training program for young women who are exploring
their potential as string musicians and wish to dedicate themselves to
a rigorous academic and musical curriculum during their high school
years.
Only a few high schools in the nation offer an integrated and intensive music program that can prepare students for music careers, but San Domenico is the only one with college-preparatory academics and a small enrollment that promotes personal attention for every student. San Domenico's supportive environment, excellent music faculty and state-of-the-art Conservatory facilities make it an ideal place to foster an artistic community of serious music students.
Admission is highly selective. With only twenty-five students enrolled in the program each year, students and faculty come together to create a small and supportive community of musicians.
Performance is a key component of the program. Each year the Virtuoso Program presents more than thirty public performances, providing its students with opportunities to challenge themselves while sharing their music with the community.
