Information Literacy

Information literacy forms the basis for lifelong learning. It is common to all disciplines, to all learning environments, and to all levels of education. It enables learners to master content and extend their investigations, become more self-directed, and assume greater control over their own learning.” (Association of College and Research Libraries, 2000)

 

An information literate student;

  • Appreciates literature and understands the organization of books and libraries
  • Is an independent reader across multiple genres, including non-fiction works
  • Is able to pose a research question and develop and organize an effective search strategy
  • Conducts research using print, digital and online resources
  • Evaluates and synthesizes the information collected and can present information in a variety of formats (print, oral, multi-media)
  • Uses technology effectively as a tool to facilitate and enhance their own learning
  • Reflects on the learning process and findings for future modification.
