Welcome to San Domenico
Welcome to San Domenico! We look forward to sharing our exceptional school with you. On behalf of our entire community, I invite you to discover the many ways in which San Domenico School is distinctive among independent schools in the Bay Area. Our expansive 515 acre campus serves a truly global student community. We educate students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, with a boarding and day upper school program.
California’s first independent school, San Domenico was founded in 1850 by the Dominican Sisters, whose foundational principles for education are study, reflection, community and service. Here, these values come to life every day. In fact, many of the buzzwords popular in education today have been a part of the Dominican tradition since the order was founded over 800 years ago. Mindfulness. Global-interconnection. Resiliency. Collaboration. Every day at San Domenico we encourage our students to not just study, but also to reflect on their learning, find their purpose, and celebrate in community because an exceptional education, where values and academics join together, creates more than just great students - it develops great people.
Our visionary and experienced faculty members are leaders in best practice teaching and technology integration, and experts in social/emotional learning. They are passionate about their curricular specialty areas, and above all, extraordinary role models for our students. For our leadership in 1:1 iPad learning, we have been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School, and the United States Department of Education honored San Domenico with a 2013 Green Ribbon Award for Excellence in Sustainability - one of only two schools in California to receive this distinction at the time.
As an independent Catholic school with a nearly 165-year history anchored by a commitment to inclusivity and inquiry, our dedicated faculty and staff support our students as they explore their own values and beliefs while learning about many different faith traditions in a spirit of open inquiry. SD students develop character and integrity along with a commitment to social justice, service, and the principles of sustainability.
Our campus boasts a one-acre organic garden, one of the largest school solar fields in Marin County, an extensive music conservatory and performing arts facility, equestrian center, athletic center, tennis courts, playing fields, and swimming pool, all of which provide students at all levels opportunities to develop their gifts and explore their interests and passions outside of the classroom.
San Domenico classes are student centered, allowing every student to develop his or her own creativity, critical thinking skills and love of learning. Our distinguished iPad program fosters the development of 21st century skills that are widely integrated into all programs.
When students graduate from San Domenico, they have a deep sense of self, a compassionate respect for others, a responsibility to the world, and the ability to continue to pursue an abundance of opportunities.
We hope you enjoy learning more about San Domenico and invite you to come visit our campus.
All the best,
Cecily Stock, M.A., J.D. ('77)
