Ogechi E. '17 earned first place in the English Speaking Union's Regional Shakespeare Speech Competition last Saturday in San Francisco. Competing against 26 other students, representing schools from around Northern California, Ogechi performed an emotional scene from "Othello" and sonnet 18, "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" She will now compete against 60 other regional winners during the May 1 national finals at the Lincoln Center in New York City.
This was Ogechi's third time participating in this competition, and San Domenico's second time placing in the competition, the first recognition being won by none other than her twin sister, Ugochi, in 2014, when she came in third place. Ogechi prepared for the competition by working closely with Theatre Arts teacher and director, Jennifer Grimes.
This comes on the heels of SD junior Rachael Z.'s win at the Marin Poetry Out Loud competition. Rachael will compete in the upcoming State finals next week. We are so proud of all our performers and wish Ogechi and Rachael all the best in their competitions and all their future dramatic endeavors!
